Oct 24 Slinger

I had hoped to ride today since it was supposed get up close to 70 and there were still some pretty good pockets of color here and south, including tomorrow I planned on meeting friends to watch my friend Suzie’s band… Suzie and the Detonators at 3 Sheeps.

I had asked Kevin Thursday if he planned on riding, but he said if he did it was to pay for a new to him bike he’d been looking at. And I never heard anything from him last night. I also did not feel ambitious enough last night to try and gather any other riders and plan some place to go. So, I figured if nothing else, I’d go some place alone today, which I really do not enjoy as much as going with someone else.

Well, low and behold, when I woke up there was a text from Kevin he sent after I went to bed last night, and asked if I was riding today. After a few text messages back and forth and a phone call, we decided to keep in touch as I was getting ready and meet up in Glen. However, because it was supposed to be pretty windy today and the last time we rode together, he told me got short with me because my mic for my Sena was the kind that does not reduce the wind noise. So, I also was going to swap out the mic with the other type that came with it, which is so much better for reducing the wind noise, only to find one of the allen wrench screws was stripped. I called to see if he’d be willing to meet me here and see if he could figure out how to get it unscrewed and he was fine with that.

He got here around 9:45 and after quite a bit of attempts, he finally got it off with a wrench and helped by installing the other mic. Then we were off and he told me to lead. I had mentioned to him that I had thought of us trying out the new Jug’s in Slinger for lunch since we have not been there yet, and he was good with that.

I did not hit the Kettles much on the way there, except once we got to Cty G north of and through Dundee and staying on it until it turned into S into Kewaskum. Then some of the same roads we were on together two weeks ago and eventually Cty D to Hwy 175 all the way to Slinger. And we decided that since we were going right by it, we would stop and walk around the Bonestock display there at the Sippie Hippie. This was the skeleton display that was always just before Holy Hill along Hwy 167, but believe they moved it because it was extremely dangerous spot for stopping along the highway before, including he probably outgrew its space. It is really cool up close and even had a Rainbow Bridge. I said boy I seen and crossed that enough last weekend on my trip to Niagara Falls.

After that we headed over to Jug’s inside of the bowling alley. It is very spacious and nicely decorated with sports beliah. Although the menu looked pretty close to the same as the Hitching Post location, they did not have the Bronco Burger we really like, so we ended up sharing an order of nachos instead, and that was super good!

From there we headed backup through Slinger, but took Cedar Creek Road, which we talked about the last time we rode as I thought it was a dead end, but Kevin took it the weekend I was gone and highly recommended it. So that was our destination for leaving Slinger which is right by the entrance to Little Switz. It is very cool, and twisty with lots of great fall colors right now. Actually we still seen some really awesome colors yet quite a bit throughout today. A lot of the sugar maples, oaks and poplar/birches were hitting peak now. And oh boy, those brilliant yellow poplar trees were so spectacular and I was very bummed there weren’t any good spots to stop and get a photo of them.

We ended up going back through Dundee but I came up to it through Mauthe Lake way and then G. The Hamburger Haus was really busy! No surprise as their last day is tomorrow and today was surely gorgeous weather-wise.

When we got to Baker’s Kevin split off on T west to head home and I stayed on it north and east to Greenbush, and then I took 23 to Cty S with hopes there might be some of those poplars along the way through there, but there was only one spot which was not safe to stop at with the location of the hills.

When I got to Glen, I circled back to the BP to top off since I highly suspect this will be my last day for riding this season.

I really am okay with that, but yeah I will be bummed. I got a lot of really good riding in this season, including that 3-day trip through the driftless in WI, IA and MN. So nothing to complain about, and thankfully my months of knee and leg problems never hindered my comfort while on the bike at all.

Today was 167 miles. Just enough to make a half a day of riding and enough time for Kevin to hit the woods. Oh and the skies were beautiful again today!
