Aug 2 New Tire & Pewaukee

Previous

Since I had the flat tire last weekend, and Kevin has a tire changer now, I ordered new tires for the bike and had them delivered to Kevin’s place during the week with hopes to get the rear one replaced sometime this weekend. Yesterday we had rain until mid to late afternoon, so today I left somewhat early to get to his place with hopes for a nice ride after he was done.

It was almost a carbon-copy weatherize this morning as last Saturday when I had the flat… overcast and cool, but also breezy. Which I did not mind as they said it would clear up, and I prefer it cooler vs incredibly warm. I ended up sleeping in until 6:30ish, so I did not head out until around 8:30. And I have to admit I was a bit nervous on my way there, even though the plugged tire seemed to be holding air quite well, but now being by myself and not much for traffic yet, I was being extra attentive to anything that seemed off with traction.

I arrived at Kevin’s shortly after 9 and he got at it right away and we were finished and ready to head out by 10:30. With not knowing how long it would take for us to get the tire swapped, I did not invite anyone. However, Kevin invited a couple from his camping group who live in Brookfield, Norb & Jill, to meet us for lunch since we planned on eating at one of the eateries along Pewaukee Lake.

On our way south on 83 going through Hartland, one of Kev’s four legged friends crossed the road in front of us, but with plenty of distance. I just love looking at all of the estates in the area along 83, including the canopy of trees and curviness of the road through there.

I believe it was shortly after noon when we arrived to meet up for lunch, and they must have gotten there just before us as they were still by their bikes. We chose Gina’s Shore Dock and wouldn’t you know it, they’re paved parking was all downhill. When we got into the lot, I positioned my bike to back in the stall, but there was no way my bike could be parked either backed in or pulled in forward. Kevin couldn’t either, so he positioned his bike sideways in the stall and then relieved me from trying to get the position changed due to my height constraints. This is something I would have totally avoided due to the fact this is such an issue for me, but they were already waiting and I’m not sure that Sunset next door would have been much better for parking.

Anyway, we had a nice time and pretty good grilled sandwiches after waiting a bit for the food. It remained overcast while we were there with a little bit of breaks in the clouds.

From there we continued north with some zig-zagging west, north and east until we reached just south of Holy Hill off to the southeast and continued up into Slinger on Fond du Lac Ave or road, which I was so surprised I have never been on and it is pretty curvy. We stopped for Cream in Slinger at Little Sweets (nice play on words). Been by there many times and we initially were going to see how busy Hambuger Haus was for a stop there by Dundee. However, I’m sure glad we decided to try another new place, even though it wasn’t my favorite Cedar Crest, but Chocolate Shop instead, because there was a huge line when we passed the Haus.

When we arrived at the former Baker’s Cheese, Kevin took T east to head home and I continued on T north all the way to 23 west, then Cty S north into Glendeulah, Cty C east and when I got to where it crosses J to RA, State and County were there staged for the soon needed egress from the IMSA races, but I wasn’t sure if it was over already since there seemed to be a lot of cars coming from the east on J, so I kept on C until Woodland Rd to Hwy 67 north and I got lucky because the race wasn’t over yet. From there I took J east to E north and Garton all the way back to Grove.

Another day of riding with being gone most of the day, but thankfully not because of any unfavorable events. Just extra long to replace the plugged tire, and I had 194 miles on my tracker which was no surprise to me! A great day and I sure didn’t mind the clouds early on, and it really didn’t get sunny until we were further north and later on in our ride. I’m one really happy camper!
