May 16 Jugs | Kettles

Finally a gorgeous day on the weekend! And wouldn’t you know it, almost everyone had other plans except, thankfully, one of my favorite gal pals for riding… Denise. I told her I would meet up with her at her place near Fondy around 11, and I headed out from my place around 10ish after doing some polishing of the bike from some stuff still remaining from last season, as there really weren’t many bugs out the first ride I took due to being so chilly and super windy. I made it there just a little after 11 and hung out for a bit with her and Jessie chatting while she finished getting ready.

From there we were planning on heading to Jugs Hitching Post for some lunch, and then I figured we go through the Northern Kettles with a stop in Armstrong for some cream, and probably split up from there since it is pretty much halfway for both of us.

I was surprised there weren’t many bikes at Jugs, and they also noted the patio wouldn’t open up until Memorial Day weekend. At least they didn’t have the A/C cranking and we had a nice time catching up, including a very good light lunch. Denise mentioned she really liked that stretch of SSS we took on our way there, and I told her I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t found it myself until a few years ago, and I figured she would like it as much as me!

From Jugs we took Cty D east to the Scenic Route just north of Bend, and we remained on it until we reached New Fane, and then I took Youth Camp Road to SS east and then Cty G north into Dundee. We ran into quite a few slower vehicles along Long Lake, so I took the road west near the campground to Vista Drive north which heads directly into Armstrong where we stopped at Spoonlickers for the cream. Cedar Crest to be more specific. Yum, yum! Since it was such a lovely day, we ate it outside and sat there for probably more than an hour chatting and enjoying the weather.

Eventually we headed out and we split up from there. I took a couple of the same roads back, Cty G and Cty T, but then got onto Hwy 23 where I took Cty S north into Glenbeulah with a stop for gas. Then onto A north and C east, and CJ and J around Crystal Lake and into Elkhart where I took I think CJ again back to C and then Hwy 67 to Cty J east, and then E north to Garton all the way back to Grove. It was such a beautiful day and I was feeling so good on the bike, that I didn’t want to take a direct route home.

Nothing major for distance today (127 miles), but still didn’t get home until 4:30ish and it felt OH SO GOOD! Especially since I need to get conditioned for my big trip coming up in a few weeks.

Thank you Denise for joining me today!!!
