July 28-29 Door Cty

It looked like Saturday was supposed to be the best day for riding, but you know how things change… however, it still looked to be good after several forecast changes so I stuck with my plan for a ride to Door County and invited some people. Kevin was the only person who was a for sure from the get-go. Since I haven’t been on the bike much, I decided a few days prior to find somewhere to spend the night before heading back the next day. We could only find something as close as the east side of Green Bay. The only other takers were Mark E. and Tom B. We met them at G&L’s main parking lot at 9:30. Tom wanted to be back around 4:00 and Mark wanted to head home earlier too, so I didn't take the usual back roads to get up there to ensure they were able to make it pretty far with us. We made it to Algoma around noon and stopped at Fishtale Ale House for lunch and to see what Tom and Mark wanted to do beyond that point. They both opted to head back together from there. Kevin and I continued to Cave Point Park in Jacksonport. Wow! It has really become quite a hot-spot for people to swim, kayak, etc. It was packed! We stayed for a while before venturing north through Bailey’s Harbor and then over to Sister Bay down through Ephraim and Fish Creek. Very congested through all of these touristy towns as usual. I took a wrong turn out of Fish Creek thinking it was County G out of Egg Harbor and what a really nice mistake. Great roads and views of the Ledge (Niagara Escarpment) including a very windy road up the Ledge which I really thought I could’t make, but I did! We eventually found County G out of Egg Harbor and Kevin planned some really nice roads closer to the Bay out of Sturgeon Bay to Green Bay to keep us off of the Interstate. When we arrived at the hotel we freshened up and walked over to Mackinaws for dinner. We originally wanted to walk over to Anduzzi’s but it looked very busy with cars parked on the road.

For the next day I had merely planned for a few roads towards Chilton where I wanted to stop for ice-cream at Scoops since we ran out of time for ice-cream the day before and we were too full for it after dinner. We zig-zagged our way there and then noticed some rain to the northwest and east of us. Nothing we were concerned about, and I kept it in mind for the remainder of the route home.

We put in a total of 371 miles over both days. It felt so good for me to be on the bike again; I didn’t want to get off of it! Except my body said I should.
