May 27 Waterloo

Today was supposed to be the nicest day of the holiday weekend, although I think they haven’t been able to accurately predict the weather for several weeks now. I planned a trip to Waterloo for Kevin and I to have lunch at the Hartwig’s Waterloo Cafe

However before heading out I stumbled upon what I think was live feed from Donington Park where they were paying respects and a tribute to Nicky Hayden, and I had to watch it. Which reminded me that I had those stickers Nicky sent me in early 2000, so I found one that wasn’t signed and decided that I needed to place it on my bike even though I am not a fan of such. I found a great spot on the frame for it (below) and I will never take it off.

It was very sunny when we left but shortly ran into clouds and pretty gusty winds out of the south. I missed a road somewhere after Juneau, but we eventually were able to get back on track to get to Waterloo. Where we did stop for lunch at  Hartwig’s Waterloo Cafe. The complimentary homemade soups were very good, including the burger and sandwich we ordered. I apparently lost my list of directions from there, but remembered some and created new ones.

By the time we left there the winds changed out of the west and still a bit gusty with clouds, so I never really warmed up until after our stop in Randolph. Hence some girl was being silly by wearing her air flow jacket without the liner.  I think this was my first 200+ mile ride this season and I could feel it. Great day and ride!
