It was expected to be a warm day with very little chance of rain and highs in the 70s. So I planned a ride for Kevin and I to take mostly back roads north and west into Wautoma to have lunch at the Milty Wilty. Also, Erickson had completed the remainder of work he could on my bike, new chain and sprockets. It was a bit cool with rain off to the west when we picked up my bike, and it sure looked like a good deal of rain in the direction I had planned for us to go. Lucky enough, all of my planned zig-zagging kept us in-between all of it. Just a few drops at one point. Shortly before getting to Wautoma I narrowly missed a bird smack dab in front of my helmet, and almost immediately after that felt a bug or stone hit my neck. Well after it started to burn right away, I knew it was a bug, but more specifically a bee. It burned so bad I almost pulled over right away, but the back road we were on had no shoulders and we were just about to our destination so I waited until we got there. Sure enough, Kevin said when we stopped before getting there that I had a stinger hanging on my neck. Thank goodness I am not allergic to them! First bee sting on the bike. After eating lunch at Milty we decided to head west and then south to Portage for some ice-cream, since we weren’t quite ready for it yet at Milty because it hadn’t really warmed up enough yet. Well, when we got to Portage we stopped to check on our phones for some place, but they only chain cream shops. Surprisingly we found a local yocal place in Pardeeville and by then we were warmed up since it had been sunny and 75 for a while. So off to Pardeeville we went to check out Carol’s Cones. A new place that opened in April right on Main/Hwy 22. Very good! From there we took Cty P into Fox Lake, and 68 to Waupun, then 49 through the Horicon Marsh, and then mostly back roads back to Fondy. Just under 200 miles and my wrist was really sore, so I must get more riding in to strengthen it back up. It was cloudy when we got close to Fondy and we suspect it may have been here all day. So glad we got out of Dodge, I mean Fondy, for the day!
