April 1 Lake Winnebago

The temps were supposed to be in the high 50s/low 60s with plenty of sun, plus we recently have had some really good rains to clean up the roads. So it was finally time to slip the battery back in the bike and ride. Kevin was going out around the same time as me so he met me at my place. I requested he bring along his battery charger, just in case my trickle charger didn’t do the job it should over winter. Hence it has proven not to from one year to the next. Good thing he did because it really didn’t want to start. After spending around half an hour attempting to get it started, it finally did. We were all geared up and ready to head out, but then Kevin’s bike wouldn’t start. So he rolled his bike into my garage and charged his battery. His didn’t take as long to start since he already had charged it before heading over. Because it was already around 2 p.m. I suggested we just go around Lake Winnebago, and that is what we did. It was pretty chilly heading back down from Neenah and through Oshkosh on the west side of the lake because the winds had shifted out of the southeast pushing the cold air from over the lake inland. I was down right shivering occasionally. Around Bago is just over 80 miles and that is a pretty good start for a first ride for me. Good thing we didn’t stop anywhere along the way because when we got back, I turned off my bike before parking it in my garage, and when I went to start it she was dead. So all that riding did not help to keep the battery charged. Yippee, new battery, new tires and front break pads are just some items I’ll need to get this season off to a great start. Can’t wait!
