September 24 Amherst Junction

I was trying to plan a ride for today and the only takers were Kevin. Nicki was going to but finally decided she needed to study for her classes instead. Bummer! We didn’t leave until around 11 a.m. I met Kevin at his place so he could load my route I planned the night before to the Amherst area into his GPS. It was overcast and breezy with temps in the mid sixties, so I opted for wearing a long sleeve thermal and my non-vented jacket (good choices). For the most part we took county roads, but did end up on some back country roads too because I screwed up or decided to take other roads on purpose. The destination I chose was Amherst Junction to stop for lunch at Bootlegger’s. We got there around 2 p.m. and were able to watch some of the Badger’s game while we were there and boy were they crushing Michigan State (very impressive)! From there I had already planned some of the route to take us to Wautoma and then some roads after that I had never been on before, and onto 21 into Red Granite where we stopped for a break, figured out the rest of our route, and to walk around the quarry. Kevin had never been to the quarry, so it was a new adventure for him. From there we took most county and country roads until hooking onto 23 east of Rosendale for the remainder of the trip back home. Although we didn’t have a whole lot of sun it was still a fun day and saw a little bit of fall colors here and there. Map and pictures below...
