Sunday, July 12 Port Washington

Another hot and oppressive day was to be had, without the cloud coverage to help keep us cool like yesterday. So we opted again to head towards Lake Michigan but this time south to Port Washington. We winded through the lower Kettle Moraine through New Fane and then county and country roads into Fredonia. Boy there were some really cool roads through that part of the Kettles I have never been on before. Cty GGG was super cool but a bunch of slower bikes pulled onto it right before us barely doing 25 MPH. I decided at the next intersection to go the opposite direction as them and was pretty surprised as much as we snaked and circled around that we did not run into them again. We did pass the same guy on a sport bike twice which was pretty comical. After arriving in Port and finding some gas, we ventured back downtown to find a place to park and walk around to find a place to eat, and we ended up at Schooner Pub. We sat on their upper deck overlooking the harbor. Even got my shoulders a little rosy! ;) From there we tried to stay as close to the lakeshore heading north but most roads were dead ends or no outlets. We did however get closer over to the lake in that area east of Hwy 43 than we ever had before, and we found some really cool roads along the Town of Wilson where we came up on a doe right along the road on someone’s wooded property and it never phased her that we were that close. From there we went into Sheboygan and stopped along the beach front to take a break and walk out on one of the old piers. Then we headed out of town on Cty O past the airport, and through Cedar Lake, Glenbeulah, Armstrong, Eden and home. Only a map for today and around 150 miles.

Saturday, July 11 Manitowoc & Trivers

What looked in the beginning of the week to be a rainy weekend turned out to be non-issue, but very warm with very high dew points. With that said we opted to take our first ride towards Lake Michigan. We took a bunch or county and country roads to get to Lake Shore Drive just north of Sheboygan and I went to start the video recorder for the breathtaking view coming up onto the lake, only to find that they graded the road down in that spot and put in some smaller curves, so you no longer can see the lake from that great view up high. We were going to eat at the submarine festival near downtown Manitowoc but could not find anywhere to park so we drove up to Two Rivers and stopped at the Lighthouse Inn for a delicious cheesy garlic chicken sandwich, and sat outside to enjoy the view of the lake.  From there we snaked north along more back roads along the Lake and then inland for a stop in Stangelville to take a pic for my old work pal Tom Stangel. Oh and I forgot to mention that within ten miles of the lake the temps fell and continued more than ten degrees difference. Due to the overcast skies I actually got quite chilled several times with goosebumps. We found a place to stop outside of Chilton by some river (pic) below and then went to Scoops in Chilton so I could take care of my mint chocolate chip wafer cone craving I’ve only had for the past month or so. Mmmm, mmmm good! We put in just shy of 200 miles this trip.
