May 9, Devils Lake

Again we planned a ride but didn’t post it on FB since the one couple who want to ride cannot on Saturdays. It ended up being quite chilly in the morning, so I went to the gym and took my time getting ready with hopes it would get nicer. It was sunny when we left FDL but shortly after that we ran into clouds. I had my cooler riding gear on though so not too bad. We headed southwest into and back with the wind again. Took a bunch of county roads and ended up through Brandon and close to Fairwater. As we were heading south on Hwy 73 we were going to turn off but a truck ahead of us did and was doing a u-turn so I opted to keep going, Here that truck was Kevin’s Mom and Dad and thought that was us. So I pulled over at the next road to chat with them for a bit. We continued eventually taking more back and county roads towards Portage and I found that old wooden bridge just off of E on Cty M. OH MY GOD!  It was so bumpy I thought my front end was going buckle on me. Whew... glad to get off of that!  It is really cool looking but not good to drive over. We found another one but it was paved over. We stopped and took some pictures of that one before heading on. We were eventually pretty close to Devil’s Lake so we stopped at the old Hooties now the Pump House outside of Baraboo for a sandwich. After that we headed into Devil’s Lake park for a drive through and a couple of pictures. Then proceeded through Baraboo to Cty W and so and so on. When we were heading back we ended up in Sauk where we gassed up and decided to take Hwy 60 and other main roads to get back since it was getting late and very cool. We put in 231 miles this trip. Map below and pictures to follow.
