Sept 28 Wautoma

I planned today’s route hoping to find a little more colors northwest and although I didn’t find a whole lot, there were some pretty nice areas here and there along Hwy 73 north of Princeton. I also planned this one more inland since it wasn’t supposed to be nearly as hot as yesterday, and it was actually a bit chilly when I left Grove around 9:45 to meet Kevin in Fondy.

I also planned more of a direct route to Wautoma so that we could get there around noonish to try out a new place we have been by many times, but never eaten at, KRB BBQ, and it did not disappoint! In fact it was quite a bit for lunch, but I gave Kevin my coleslaw to take home so I could focus on devouring my brisket and mac n’ cheese. We also opted to sit on their patio facing the sun, so that I could warm up, but then I got too warm.

From there I planned more back roads north, east and south of Wautoma, eventually arriving into Ripon for an ice cream stop at the Sweet'er N Saulty'er. However, I almost didn’t think I would want ice cream after such a big lunch so I only ordered a single scoop, but the gal working the counter made them in a double dish and it was more like four scoops. I hate to admit it, but I couldn’t finish mine and felt a tab bit horrible for throwing it out.

From there we took Olden Road to Hwy 26 south, then Cty T east back to Fondy. After Kevin broke off, I took Hwy 45 south and just into the second dogleg I suddenly noticed a sporty passing me including the car ahead of me in the curve at a very high rate of speed with an oncoming van that had to pull off into their shoulder to avoid him, but he kept on going passing everyone in the curves. What an idiot! I can’t imagine how bad someone would have felt if they had taken him out. I certainly do not like to dilly-dally and will pass in a no passing zone at times, but not if I cannot see what’s ahead and especially not into oncoming traffic. What a complete moron!

Anyway, from Eden I stayed on Hwy 45 to Cty B east, then Cty G north and Cty T east. When I arrived in Glen, I decided to refuel at the same gas station I had done so earlier on my way to Fondy, but also to use their squeegee to clean off my windshield which was completely covered in bug guts… yuck!

From there I took Cty J with a stop along the railroad tracks near Road America for a couple of photos since there was a little bit of fall foliage happening there. Then Cty E north to Garton all the way back to Grove.

What an awesome weekend weatherize for riding, which certainly made up for no riding last weekend! And, its also great that my favorite riding buddy has his new ride so that we can go farther again! 215 miles for me today.
