Sept 14 Hartland

I reached out to Kevin a couple days ago to see if he was up for a ride today with his Magna, and he said yes, but not too long. So, I worked up a route on Friday night for me to meet him at his place and make our way to Woody’s Bar & Grill in Hartland. Thought we would try something new without going as far as Oconomowoc or Deerfield, and although we were close to Holy Hill, I did not want to plan much on the roads too close to it, due to how busy it would be on such a nice Sunday.

It was foggy again when I woke up and it took a while to burn off, and thought I’d get to his place around 11, but he mentioned that it takes 2 hours to get to Woody’s, and that gets a bit late for lunch. So, I put it into high gear and got ready sooner, and luckily for me, I had almost a full tank which means no stopping for that on my way to meet him. I also took Hwy 23 from Glen to help get me there quicker. Which was around 10:20.

For this trip I did not plan a whole lot of back roads, although we seemed to hit quite a few after venturing off of Hwy 45 near Waucusta. We made a stop for both of us to fuel up in Campbellsport and then proceeded on Cty W south to Elmore and Lake Bernice roads, and a whole bunch of back roads to Cty K, which we took east to Hwy 83 south all of the way to Woody’s, and we arrived around 12:30. Although the parking lot wasn’t too full, the place was pretty packed and we were lucky to get one of the only two open tables. Also, when we were getting off our bikes, a couple on a Harley parked right next to us and wouldn’t even say hi. It absolutely dumb-founds me the amount of hatred people have towards each other, and for this instance especially since most of their bike’s parts are not even made in America. As well as Harley has plants all over the world. Just have to laugh it off.

We shared a really good bacon cheeseburger with a sharp cheddar cheese spread with seasoned crinkle fries, and then headed out right away since by now they had a wait for tables.

From there we took Kilbourne Road northeast, and eventually connected to Cty K north, and we were going to take Emerald Road northeast from there, but it was being resurfaced with very large and loose chunky construction gravel. I then suggested we just take Hwy 167 east right by Holy Hill to 164 north, and then 175 which put us back on our original route. And, I have to admit that I was glad to get away from the Holy Hill area, not because it was insanely congested, but because everyone was riding our butts.

We took Hwy 144 out of Slinger and continued on Glacier Road north at Hwy 33, with a couple of other roads to Cty H east into Kewaskum, and then I suggested we make a cream stop at Spoonlicker’s in Armstrong, since I haven’t been there yet, and Kevin told me to go ahead and take the roads I suggested since I was leading at this point. So I took us on Cty F east out of Waucusta, to Airport and Vista Roads connecting to Armstrong.

I was so happy to see they served Cedar Crest, and although they had my most favorite, Mint Chocolate Chip, they were pretty much out of Pirate’s Bounty, so it was just Mint today. Since it was such a beautiful day, in the 70s with a little dew point and not much of a breeze, we ate our cream outside on their patio furniture, and watched a kid get beamed in the face with the tetherball they had in the kids play area. Poor guy! Another funny thing was, that they asked you if you have their licker license when you pay… haha!

From there we split up as I continued north, and Kevin south. I took my usual roads: Cty B, G, T, 23, S, A, JP, and in Elkhart I took the road along the golf course hoping for some color in the woods there, but nadda. And, then I took Garton all the way back to Grove, which is where I found a brilliant maple where I could actually stop and take a photo of. All the other ones we seen today were on too busy of roads for stopping.

I also had my “Service Due” light come on after we split up and we were just talking about me getting my bike into the shop in Fondy that services my make/model before the season is over for the oil change and possibly fix the shift indicator, as that keeps saying I’m in 1st gear when I am in 6th.

Such a beautiful day for riding, and I am so grateful Kevin still has his old ride, so that we can still ride as he can use his GPS for planned routes as well. 178 miles for me today.
