Today I felt redeemed for not riding yesterday, although I did get a lot accomplished yesterday.
My Sista had invited me to join her and Dale this morning to their campsite for breakfast at Mauthe Lake at 9:30 (Val & Joy too), and I asked if it was okay for Kevin to join us so that we could get a decent start for riding, since it was originally supposed to be the warmest day of the holiday weekend. So, he and I were going to meet there, at the parking lot by the entrance. I left around 8ish to gas up in Grove before heading out and I called him just as I was coming up to 67 north of Dundee, and he was just walking out to his garage. We then decided to meet in Eden, which we did and made it there at exactly the same time.
When we arrived at Mauthe Lake, there was a person manning the guard shack for payment and it was $13/person. Since we’d only be staying an hour or so, we couldn’t justify paying that much and I called Lori to let her know. She was disappointed not to see us, but understood.
From there we headed back to New Prospect and then headed west going through Campbellsport, Lomira and Waupun with thoughts of heading to Pardeeville. As we were approaching the north side of Fox Lake and then heading south on Cty A, I thought maybe we could even go to the Ferry. However, after thinking it over and it being a holiday, knowing it would be pretty busy, we opted to head to The Dump instead, in Cambria for lunch since neither of us had been there before. As we got into town a friendly officer was there taking radar and gave us a wave when we passed. Since street parking was at an angle and downhill, we had to back our bikes in. Something almost completely new for me to do with the taller and heavier bike, but I would have never been able to back it uphill. While we’ve been riding this weekend, Kevin explained to me that he and his friend Kevin have to do these types of things quite often since their bikes are even considerably heavier. I just need to keep these types of things in mind too.
The burger we split was very good, but very small with not many chips. Otherwise I’d give them a thumbs up. We sat on their deck to eat and it was quite chilly at times with the clouds that had rolled in. However, our timing was impeccable, as they had a pretty good wait by the time we left.
We continued west on Cty P to Pardeeville where we took Hwy 144 north to a country road on the north side of Park Lake to Hwy 22 north, and then Military Road (appropriate for Memorial Day) heading northeast through Amish country into and out of Kingston. We came up on only a couple of Amish buggies today. And ended up on Hwy 73 north, to Cty D north into Princeton where we gassed up and headed to Green Lake on Hwy 23 to look for an ice cream spot there, and we found one at North Bay and they served my favorite, Cedar Crest. It was pretty chilly along the lake so we opted to sit inside to eat it.
From there we took Hwy 23 into Ripon and then Olden Road to Cty N east, Cty I south and then back onto 23 into Fondy, taking the frontage road around the west side of town to Pioneer which is where Kevin and I broke off, as I continued on Pioneer to Hwy 45, to Cty K north, to Cty T east. I took Cty W north out of Dotyville and made a stop at the church on Cty W & 23 to see why my music wouldn’t play. Only to find my phone had overheated in the clear pouch of my tank bag, so I threw it inside the bag and back-tracked to Dotyville, then taking Cty T east all the way to Greenbush. Right near the entrance into the Kettles outside of Greenbush a fire emergency truck passed me with his lights on, but no sirens, and I crept up on another bike going through town. He kept going on Cty A to 23 and I took the side road to 23 so I could get back onto Cty A because you cannot cross there anymore since the expansion project of Hwy 23 and as I approached, that same motorcycle was zig-zagging to cross at Cty A illegally. I came up on him just outside of Glenbeulah and his female passenger looked back me. I suspect thee have Sena’s and he probably mentioned I came up on them a bit fast. Then they crept into the gas station right there, but did not pull up to a pump or even the parking, and they were both staring at me as I went by. I think he was worried I was Po-Po, and I just smirked and shook my head as I passed.
From there I went through Elkhart staying on Cty A east and then Cty M south to Garton Road east into town. Although my phone overheated, my tracker never stopped and I was a little shocked to see I had put in 248 miles. Except I have a sore butt to prove it. It was a great day, even though pretty chilly at times! And feeling much more comfortable with my new ride every day.
