May 5 Eureka

It was supposed to be much warmer and nicer today than yesterday and I really wanted to get in more of a ride today, and of course, Kevin is always up for that! I hadn’t made my usual early season homage to Eureka yet, so that is where we planned on going, and since it was west of Fondy, I opted to meet Kevin at his place. I left around 9 a.m. after cleaning my bike, as I left it at my apartment the night before vs. taking back to the storage unit. It was quite chilly though and I just chalked it up to being a bit early in the day yet. However, it never really got very warm with extremely dry and chilly air. Thankfully, Kevin grabbed a long-sleeved fleece for me which I eventually did put on over my t-shirt.

I had only planned out a route to Berlin after Eureka that night before, so Kevin finished it off with a round-about way back over to my neck of the woods, Greenbush.

Not much for greenery or foliage on the trees yet, but still was warmer than yesterday. We stopped at the Landing Dock for lunch along the Fox River in Eureka and as always, good food!

His route took us through Fox Lake and although Karen closed her Hip Hop Diner, our previous favorite stop for food or ice cream, there were new owners, Eggy’s Diner, and we stopped to check it out. Not very polished yet, but they had a few Kemp’s ice cream flavors, so we both got a dish to eat outside. Although sunny, it was still pretty chilly outside. From there we ended up going through Horicon Marsh and Oakfield before heading east to Greenbush when we split up. I did track my route to Kevin’s, so there are two maps below.

I aslo opted to keep my bike at home again this evening, so I could take it to work tomorrow and then get it to my new storage unit.
