May 19 Kettles

It was an exceptionally beautiful weekend! Yesterday, Saturday, was in the high 80s inland, but only 70s by me. However, it was very humid too. I failed to find anyone to ride with for Saturday, so opted to finally have a nice visit and lunch with my Aunt Eileen. As for today, Brad already informed me last weekend he would be available and wanted to ride. So, I asked if he’d be willing to meet me in Greenbush again around 10, and he agreed. This time Mark M also joined us. I was only in Greenbush for around 5 minutes before they showed up. From there I had written down some roads I wanted to take which also included the Northern Kettle Moraine, but not all on the marked route for the scenic drive through there. We started on Cty A and headed south and then east into the Kettles connecting onto Scenic Drive. When we arrived in New Fane, Mark asked if we could stop by his brother’s place who lived near there and I said yes, providing I could use his bathroom. Haha! We stopped and visited with him for a little while and continued onto the east side of Kewaskum, as Hwy 45 through there still isn’t open. And, we stopped for gas as I knew I was getting very low.

From there we headed east on Hwy 28 to Oak Drive south and then Cty A and some other roads before getting back onto Scenic Drive into the north side of Bend taking Cty D to our planned lunch stop, Jugs Hitching Post. We had wanted to sit outside on their patio, but we were told it doesn’t open for serving food until Memorial Weekend (next weekend). So, we stayed inside and ate. As usual, everything we ordered was exceptional! I got a doggy bag for half of my food to put in the trunk of my bike.

From there I had nothing planned for a route, but we agreed to eventually hit Kelley Creamery for ice cream. So I just meandered west on D, south on 175, west on DW, then other back roads, TW and Y through Knowles and Brownsville, and then Cty F to Kelley Road to Cty B to the creamery. They weren’t very busy which was good for us and we sat on their rocking chairs out front to eat our cream. I said I felt like an old-timer, and actually that isn’t too far from the truth as I am not getting any younger.

From there we split up and I headed east on B through Eden, Hwy 45, and continued on B to Cty G and Cty T before getting onto Hwy 23 for a bit to get to Cty A through Glenbeulah, then Cty A north to JP into Elkhart and A all the way back to Grove.

Only 140 miles, but with several stops and jockeying my bike and car at my storage unit, I still didn’t get home until 4. And, as we joked earlier at Jugs, about me forgetting my food in the trunk of my bike; that is exactly what I had done. However, since it was still warm when I went back to get, that is what I had for dinner.

Seen a little bit of nature today. One turkey hen crossed the road in front of me, a pair of Canadian Geese and they younglings also crossed the road in front of me, oh and a chipmunk did so as well. Then before Bend, I scared up a juvenile Bald Eagle out of a tree. Think that was it though.

An excellent day was had by all!
