It was supposed to be much warmer than yesterday or any other day as of late for today, so I opted not to ride at all yesterday (Saturday) as it was only highs in the low 60s, but today was supposed to be in the high 70s by me and 80s inland. Although it was Mother’s Day, I knew Kevin didn’t have plans with his parents and that Brad might not have any plans either. So, we planned to meet around 10 a.m. today in Greenbush, which seems to be an almost exact half way point to meet between Fondy and Howards Grove.
After jockeying my car and bike at my storage unit, to get out with the censored gate, I was off and arrived in Greenbush 20 minutes early. Kevin showed up first and said he passed Brad on Cty T and so he should be there soon.
From there we took Cty S into Glenbeulah where we stopped for gas and the bathroom. I had planned a route to Saint Nazianz for lunch at Meat’s Opera Haus. Now we all knew today might be a challenge due to it being Mother’s Day, and such was the the case here because although they had only a 5 minute wait, were only serving brunch and that is overkill for lunch. I would never eat the amount of money I spend on it. So, off we went to the Marsh Inn. They were busy too, but there was one table open in the back room, but the worker there told us they didn’t serve food in the back room and wouldn’t be serving any food until noon and it was 11:15. So, off we were again! This time for Ruby’s Cafe in Brillion. I kept saying 3rd times the charm, and it was. We arrived around 11:30 and they stopped serving at 1. However, we noticed they put the closed sign up at noon.
All of the searching for food messed up our route which would eventually get us to Frogg’s in Sherwood for ice cream, but from Brillion, it was only around a half hour and we certainly weren’t ready for cream yet, however we stopped to chat with Brad as he indicated he would just head home from there, but Kevin had planned more of a route for us to take getting me a bit closer to home.
On our way to Sherwood we passed Mulberry Farm, a place I like to stop for baby goats and other animals, and it was packed! They were so busy they were letting patrons park on their alfalfa fields. Crazy!
It was extremely gorgeous out by the time we left Sherwood, and since we were so close to Chilton, we opted to stop for cream there. We met another guy who has a Beamer RT like Kevin’s and he sat with us chatting with Kevin while he ate his cream. We arrived there just at the right time too, as it got extremely busy after that.
From there we headed south crossing Pine Creek many times and Kevin even found a gravel road for us. Haha! It actually wasn’t bad. A little bumpy in spots, but packed pretty well for the most part.
We split up on the west side of Elkart Lake where I took JP into Elkhart and then Garton Road back to Grove and my storage unit.
This was the best day so far for riding this season and felt oh so good!
