July 27 Algoma

I really had no intentions of riding this weekend because they were saying very warm and very high dew points. However, Kevin sent me a message Friday evening asking if I was riding this weekend since he was back from his Lake Superior trip. Which prompted me to take another look at the forecast, and as luck would have it, it was not supposed to be too hot over by me near Lake Michigan; nor high dew points until tomorrow. So, with that said, I asked Kevin if he’d be willing to come over my way, he said yes and I planned a route for us to take to Algoma.

Since we were supposed to leave around 8:30 or 9ish, I planned a route for us to drop south first, then heading to Sheboygan on the south side, taking as many roads as possible along or close to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Apparently there was a big bicycle race going on along the lake too, and found out why the port-a-potties I seen across from work were there. They were for this event.

From Sheboygan we took Lakeshore, as I mentioned going past where I work, Kohler Generators. We took some roads along the lake in Manitowoc to see if the SS Badger was docked, but it was not. So we continued along Lake Michigan on Hwy 42 into Two Rivers, then taking one of our favorites in that area, Cty O north and then a bunch of roads named Lakeshore, Lakeview and you get it… as many roads along Lake Michigan as possible. Even out of Kewaunee.

We were originally going to eat at Gibs on the Lake south of Kewaunee for lunch, but turns out its a supper club. So, Kevin found a place in Algoma, Off the Hook Bar & Grill. We stopped first for a break and some photos along the harbor there, and low and behold, there was a Kohler generator at the water pump station.

Although we waited a long time for our food, which seems normal with all of the labor issues for restaurants, the food was very good!

From there we headed west and more inland away from Lake Michigan and then south on Cty B into Mishicot, and eventually on Hwy 147 to Hwy 42 into Trivers, with intentions of a cream stop at the Cedar Crest plant in Manitowoc, but first taking another stop along the Lake for a break and photos.

The line at Cedar Crest was out the door. Which is expected this time of year, on a weekend and especially on such a beautiful day. Always worth the wait though!

From there we took LS south for a ways, then breaking off heading west eventually meeting back up with Hwy 42 into Grove.

It was such a gorgeous day, and it never really got too terribly hot inland either! My first long ride since my trip to Mackinaw as well, which I much appreciated that Kevin came over my way too! Only around 170 miles for me today (red is us together).
