This morning we wanted to leave early because we both wanted to get home a bit early and also to beat the intensive heat expected. I even set my alarm to get up early. We both were awake by 6 a.m. and met in the breakfast area at the hotel after a couple cups of coffee to eat before packing up.
We hit a gas station right away in Escanaba and took Hwy 35. Even though we left so early we did end up with two yahoos speeding, riding Brad’s ass and not wanting to pass until a passing lane. Well except one who eventually passed after I made chicken gestures to him. We were going around 64 in a 55, but I guess!
Not many lookouts on this stretch except the two places we stopped at on our way up, which I opted to skip since we were in a bit of a hurry. I did, however, stop at a city park, John Henes, when we got into Menominee and it turned out to be a pretty nice gem of a park. Seen some pelicans and cormorants.
Then it was back off and we took the same roads back as on the way up, 35/41/Y/S/J and back onto Hwy 41 south of Suamico. I lost Brad entering onto 41 in the round-a-bout and just figured no big deal as he knew the way to De Pere. Well, when I got off of 172 and was on the off ramp, he called me. He took the Hwy 32 exit instead of Hwy 57. No biggie since they both flow into De Pere in the same spot. So, I stopped at the park right along the river and the round-a-bout, and he showed up within minutes.
From there we stopped to use the restroom at a gas station and also to get something to drink before heading out on Hwy 32 to Chilton for our final stop before splitting up and heading home, but not without making a stop for ice cream for lunch at Scoops. Well, after gassing up again.
We both agreed that we had such a nice time and the motorcycle God’s were watching out for us because the huge storms last night and this morning missed us to the south.
I planned to take Hwy 32 all the way home to Grove, but when I arrived in New Holstein there was an officer redirecting traffic with signs on the road, closed due to high water. From there I thought I headed east but I think I went more north as I ended up in St. Nazianz, and eventually stopped to look at my iMaps and sure enough I went more north and east than south, but wasn’t too far off from Hwy 42 which is what I ended up taking home to Grove. There was a lot of water standing in the fields and in the parking lot when I got home, so it definitely hit our area!
Today was 191 miles, with a total of 672 miles! I have to admit it was much more enjoyable than beating the banshee to get to Mackinaw City and back.
