July 11 Manistique

My friend Ali talked to Brad and myself back in January about making a trip up to visit the Maritime Museum in Paradise MI, and we grabbed onto that as a great idea for a motorcycle trip. So, with that said, I took off for a four day weekend and booked hotels with plans for Brad and I to take it in segments and not the complete way there and back in one day. Ali and Brian wanted to do more in the area, so they went all the way and they stayed in Mackinaw City every night.

This is the first out of state trip for me with the bike outside of my trips to Winona MN in a very long time, so I was super stoked for it!

Brad met me around 9 a.m. at the Mobile in Chilton. We took Hwy 32 to Hwy 172 to Hwy 41, then off of 41 south of Suamico on Lineville Rd to Cty J which turns into Cty S before getting into Oconto where we took Cty Y up to Hwy 41 by Peshtigo, with one stop north of Oconto along the lake.

We stopped for lunch at the Culver’s in Marinette and continued on Hwy 35 out of Menominee along the lake into Escanada where we stopped for gas and then continued where Hwy’s 41, 35 and 2 are combined. Eventually breaking off on Hwy 2 to Manistique. We made a couple of stops along Lake Michigan after Escanaba, and it didn’t get pretty warm until we got closer to Manistique, so it was good timing to get off the bikes for a bit and check into the Gray Wolf Lodge.

That evening we decided to take in a meeting at a local church and boy did I get us messed up trying to get there, but we made it and it was a really good meeting with some very nice folks. Since not too many places to choose from for dinner and the only ones open, closed at 9 p.m., we just ventured to the Big Boy on Hwy 2 just before our hotel.

Then it was time to head to our home away from home for the evening with plans to use our 10% for breakfast at the restaurant next to our hotel.

It was a beautiful day, but seemed like a long time to get there. Only to find out we had ventured into the Eastern Standard Timezone. That explains that!

Oh and no maps since I could not afford my phone dying and had too many devices to keep charged to worry about charging the charger every evening too, but according to my odometer, I put in 194 miles today.
