Aug 30 Oconomowoc

Since I realized that I had 52 hours of vacation I needed to use, I decided to take today (Friday heading into Labor Day weekend) off with hopes to ride. Lucky for me, Scott had reached out to me the previous weekend and I mentioned it to him then and he said he’d keep it in mind and get to me mid-week. Which he did and we agreed for me to meet him at his place around 10:30 and possibly head through Horicon Marsh, and south from there eventually heading east towards my direction before splitting up.

I figured it might take me around an hour and a half to get to his place outside of Mayville, so I headed out right around 9 a.m. It had rained overnight and the last I heard it was still doing so around 5:30ish. Although, they said it would end early morning and then eventually be sunny with diminishing dew points. Well, I ran into some light rain twice on my way there and I must have been anxious again to ride, or just clipping along really well with minimal traffic that early in the day, because I arrived at Scott’s at 9:45.

Once he was ready, we left with the same intentions and headed towards Horicon Marsh when it looked as though we might be running into rain, so he decided to go along the east side of the Marsh heading south around it and into Horicon. We headed south out of Horicon on some back roads and at one point a fawn was about to run out across the road in front of Scott and I wondered if he didn’t see it as he was looking the other direction, and prepared myself to lay on my horn, but Scott turned in that direction and seen it, and luckily the fawn decided to return to the corn field.

We stopped in Ixonia at a gas station to use their facilities and then decided to head into Oconomowoc for lunch since we were so close and I was hungry. So, I plugged in Fishy Bones into my iMaps and off we went. However, my iMaps wanted to take me to 90/94 to get there, which I decided not to do and took Cty Road B east just before that, and since we were going right by Lucky Chucky’s Beach Bar, I decided to give that a try. The food was very good, but they had the A/C cranking and it was still very damp out, so I was freezing! Glad to get back onto the bike to warm up!

From there Scott told me to lead and I decided not to turn back on my tracker because I forgot my cord for my battery charger and wanted to preserve my phone’s battery life. So I took us into Oconomowoc and eventually on P north, to C east and north, eventually reconnection onto P north. I cannot remember all the roads from there, but eventually took us into Hartford on Cty K, then taking 60 east to 144 north  and then across Hwy 33 on Kettle Moraine Drive and through the northern unit of the Kettles. Scott finally broke off from me in Beechwood, where he headed west and I headed north.

At this point there was some sun with clouds and as I got closer to New Prospect, I started to get rained on again. This time large rain drops and I thought, uh oh! However, it diminished, but when I arrived into New Prospect the roads were completely soaked.

After that I ended up taking SS into Dundee and then took the same roads for the remainder of my way home as I had taken to get to Mayville, and yet again, when I was on Cty T, it started to rain a little bit again, but this time not for long, and the irony is that by the time I arrived in Grove it was completely sunny.

Based on my odometer, I put in 191 miles and the map below is doctored with the route home. Although a pretty damp day, every day on the bike is a good day and it was great to take one in with Scott for a change!
