I wasn’t able to ride at all Saturday (the 24th) because I was volunteering at the Rightway Club’s brat fry with Larry from Central Office, selling literature and I was there from 10 until 5:30ish. It was a beautiful day, both days, this weekend. Although the dew points and temps had ramped back up. So, I asked Kevin if he’d be willing to head to Lake Michigan with hopes it would be cooler, and with a destination of Port Washington to venture out to the lighthouse and eat at Inventors Brew Pub. He said yes, and so I planned a route Saturday evening for us to take, meeting in Greenbush around 9:30. Apparently I was anxious again to ride, as I was there at 9:15, but Kevin was already by Baker Cheese at that point. I know because I called him to see where he was at to determine if I should take off some gear while I waited, because it was quite toasty!
Since there are some nice, curvy roads just east of Greenbush, I planned for us to zig-zag a bit taking A south, Z east, Ridge Rd north, 23 east, Hillview south and then U east before dropping south eventually entering into Cascade from the west side with a stop at the gas station for me.
From there we took NN south and some other roads before hooking up on Cty I south to Z west into Waubeka, and then taking A west to Y south to Newburg where we took 33 east into Port.
Since we left somewhat early, we pretty much had the roads to ourselves, except a few miles before Newburg on Cty Y where I noticed a green sporty had caught up to us. Yep it was a Kawi, and probably a Ninja. He went west on 33 when we went east.
The closest wildlife we seen was a few turkey hens with a bunch of poults that just crossed the road as we approached. Oh, and a goose and cormorants at Port.
When we arrived at Port, we decided to venture out to the lighthouse first as it was already quite warm and not really a whole lot cooler along the lake, and also so that we’d be nice and comfortable from sitting in the A/C at the restaurant just before heading back out.
While at the main lighthouse, we learned by the sign on it that boaters can use (as it stated) their microphones to set off the lights to illuminate when it is foggy. Interesting!
From Port heading north to Sheboygan, there aren’t any connecting roads right along the lake, so I planned for us to take the frontage road on the west side of Hwy 43 for quite a ways then heading east over 43 to LL until just outside of Oostburg and then heading north eventually making it into Falls, then through Kohler and the north side of Sheboygan so we could stop by my work to pick up some extensions cords Three Guys and A Grill left behind last week during an associate lunch, which I promised to return for them this weekend.
Because neither of us were hungry and getting very warm, we decided to just head to my place so I could grab the cords and for Kevin to head home.
Based on Kevin’s map, and minus his extra miles and adding the miles it took me to meet him in Greenbush, I only put in around 120 miles, but for a very warm day like this, that was just enough for me!
