Aug 18 Cambridge

Today was going to be the nicest day of the weekend and Kevin was available for a ride, so I planned a route to Cambridge Friday evening. It was right around 10 a.m. when I arrived at Kevin’s and on my where there, at times I thought it might actually rain. It was raining by me when I went to bed last night, but they said although it would be cloudy and still humid in the a.m., it would clear up including the dew points diminishing later in the day.

We headed south out of Fondy eventually taking Breakneck Road and north of the Horicon Marsh, then east and south of Waupun snaking our way on back roads to Lowell where we stopped by the dam along the Beaver Dam River to take some photos and stretch. From there we headed to Reeseville where I gassed up. Neither of us can ever recall going to either of these towns, so I was quite pleased with all of the roads I chose, being that we’ve never been on them before, including they were quite nice ones too! I also came across tons of wild cucumbers in bloom, which is one of my favorites. I just love how they climb and take over shrubs, trees and brush!

Our planned lunch stop was in Cambridge at Cash & Olives, or wait maybe Millie’s, but not before going through Dodge, Columbia and Dane counties. At one point after we left there it seemed like we ventured into four different counties in a very short period of time, also including Waukesha and Jefferson.

We snaked our way around Watertown on our way back and originally had thoughts of getting cream at the Hamburger Haus, but they are always so busy on the weekends, that as we approached the Hartford area, we agreed to go to Scoop De Ville’s instead, which only deviated off our original route slightly. By this time it was sunny and gorgeous out!

From there we ended taking roads west of and north of West Bend, and just south of Kewaskum before venturing into the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine going through Dundee. We split up at the former Baker Cheese, now Sargento’s (where I met Brad last weekend) and I stopped to turn my music back on, but not my route tracker. I figured it would be the same distance as Kevin to go home, so I would use what miles he tracked to just add to the 40 miles it took for me to get to his place, which put me at 240 miles for the day.
