Aug 11 Oconomowoc

I had planned a route for today to Oconomowoc for lunch and then west and north through Hustisford. I had a couple of takers, Brad and Mark, and I told them I would meet them at the former Baker Cheese, now Sargento across from the old Ditter farm. I knew I’d need gas and also must have been excited to ride as I left a tad bit too early and I beat them there by half an hour. As I parked in the lot at Sargento, a FDL County Sheriff came through with sirens and lights going heading south. At first I thought oh no, where was he hiding and it might be for me speeding as I can’t seem to do the speed limit on the route I took to get there. However, turns out there was a 70 year old male who went missing near Campbellsport on Scout Camp Rd.

Brad showed up around 10:30 and told me Mark tweaked his back Friday and wouldn’t be joining us. So, off we went on Cty G/Hwy 67 into Dundee where we stopped at the gas station for Brad.

Since Kevin wasn’t along for me to rely on to plan more back roads on his GPS, I had to old school it by writing the roads on a piece of paper for my tank bag and taking mostly main roads as well.

When we were near Oconomowoc, I missed Brown Rd not knowing it is also Cty P, so we had to somewhat back track. We already knew the original place I had chosen for lunch was no longer in business. Seems like some of the apps still show restaurants who were probably a casualty of Covid. So then we were going to eat at a smoke joint near there, but they had very little parking so we back tracked to the Kick Switch. The atmosphere, service and food there were very good!

From there we took Cty P south to Cty B west and then F north into Ixonia, and then Hwy 16 to what I thought was Cty R, but I apparently turned too soon and when I turned onto R, I went the wrong direction which took us almost into Watertown, so we turned around.

My thought was to hit Sweet Pea’s in Mayville on our way back for ice cream, but not before a stop in Hustisford at the park along the river. I had wanted to stop at the park on Cty B along a lake just southwest of Oconomowoc, but I think they turned it into a beach for a new bar/restaurant along there and it didn’t look like any place to park except the restaurant.

After Hustisford, we continued on R to Hwy 67 to Sweet Pea’s. No Cedar Crest, but instead Chocolate Shoppe cream, which is still very good!

From there we kept heading north on 67/175 and split in Lomira where I continued on 67, and it didn’t fail that I got behind slow traffic along Long Lake just as we did on our way to Oconomowoc. That’s okay because the roads I take after that are always to myself, so I got my fix of fast curves then. I also took Cty S into Glenbeulah and then Cty C back to Hwy 67, and then Garton Road to Grove.

Apparently I didn’t turn on my tracker when we left Oconomowoc, but I had checked my odometer before leaving and I put in exactly 200 miles.

Getting bittersweet as the wild cucumbers, one of my favorites, I spotted in bloom, which also indicates we’re getting closer to fall and the end of riding season. I sure do hope we have a nice fall this year!
