Aug 5 Menomonie Res

Since today was originally going to be the best day for riding and I had commitments for Sunday, I planned a very long ride (300+ miles) to the Menomonie Reservation to take Hwy 55 along the Wolf River, and posted it to the FB group. However, the only taker was Kevin. Thanks goodness he’s always up for a riding adventure!

We started at my place at 9 a.m. and I had planned our route to get us to the Waupaca area around lunch time for a bite to eat at the Wheelhouse, a place we’ve passed before and my boss has recommended, but I have never eaten there. It was very good food and because it was such a beautiful day, we ate on the deck watching all of the boaters go in and out by Beckers. Oh, and we found a new potential stop for ice cream, Scoopers which shares the parking lot of the Wheelhouse. We weren’t remotely close to being ready for some right after lunch.

It seemed like forever to get to even Shawano, and I apparently had forgotten how much distance is between there and Waupaca. However, we were ready for a pit stop and stretch by the time we arrived at Keshena Falls. Always a very scenic place to stop. I couldn’t help but be reminded of my amazing skydive adventure, as the weather almost mirrored that day’s, with a bit of a breeze and puffy clouds. Such a beautiful day that was, and today too!

From there was our destination, Hwy 55 along the Wolf River, one of the funnest and scenic roads in Wisconsin! We were pretty lucky not to have anyone in front of us to slow us down for a while, but then came up on two trucks trailering boats. So, we pulled off at the first road and gave them around five minutes lead time before pulling back out. Low and behold, after a ways we came back up on them, and of course they wouldn’t pull out on the turn offs to let faster traffic by. Eventually they turned off, but only for us to catch up to a couple of vehicles being held up by a Harley. Eventually most of them turned off too, except one SUV who started booking it pretty good until we came up to a loaded dump truck. That was it, I had to pass them!

From there we took Hwy 64 through Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest to Hwy 32 into and through Mountain for quite a ways before venturing off on some other highways and back roads, ending up in Shiocton where we were detoured due to Hwy 76 being closed, and instead took Hwy 54 to Cty M into Hortonville and eventually connecting on Cty II to get to Hwy 76. We changed the route at that point because it was getting so late and I originally had us going through Neenah to ge to Oshkosh. Instead we just took Hwy 76 to Oshkosh for our intended ice cream stop at Ardy & Ed’s. By that point we both were pretty sore and in need of a good break off the bikes.

From there we took Hwy 45 back to town.

Another gorgeous day of riding in the books!
