Aug 20 Copper Dock

Kevin and I were supposed to ride yesterday after a funeral service for my dear friend Jenna Razner, but some of us were invited to a gathering at Red Cabin Green Acres afterwards in her honor and although I thought we could meet everyone on the bikes, decided to forego that idea and just went out there right away. Sure glad I did since they had a family style meal planned and I wouldn’t have made it in time for that if I had gone home to get the bike. It was also super windy by this time, so I did not go riding at all yesterday which made today the only day for riding this weekend.

Since it was supposed to be very warm and muggy, and thought it was also supposed to get windy again, we decided to leave around 9 from my place. I did not post anything to the FB group since it would also be somewhat of a speed run.

I had planned a route the evening before for us to finally check out The Copper Dock on Friess Lake near Hubertus and Holy Hill. We arrived there around 10:30 and they opened at 10. Upon arriving, we found they were serving only a brunch buffet at that time. We typically do not eat a whole lot when we’re out on the bikes or even for lunch, for that matter. However, it was the only thing to order. $50 dollars later for Kevin, it was super good and I even had some key lime pie. We sat inside due to it being so hot and we had a nice view of the lake. I couldn’t help having Jenna heavy on mind as I watched a butterfly floating around their property. Very nice place and very good food!

From there we ventured south eventually hitting St. Augustine Road which is really getting extremely beat up in the areas under the canopies of trees, and I was sure glad I didn’t need to go to the bathroom at that time.

It seemed to be a day of me missing our next turns. Not sure if it was because I was preoccupied or that when Kevin said in a quarter mile, and I was so far ahead of him, but it became pretty comical. Especially due to how much I dread turning around on my bike with its decreased turning range from lowering it. During one of those missed turns I passed a gaggle of turkey poults and when I came back around had to wait for them as they were crossing the road with a few hens. Pretty much the only wildlife we encountered today.

From there we continued heading west just south of Holy Hill and then west of there heading back north on back roads until we were close to Iron Ridge where we took Hwy 67 to Mayville, then Y north to D back to town. Not even remotely hungry for any ice cream after our big lunch/brunch and it was getting too hot and sticky for my liking by this time. So, not a very long ride or time on the bikes. I didn’t even stop for any photos, so all I have is this map...
