Today I only had one taker, Brad, who needed to be back by 3. Then I received a call 20 minutes before we were planning on taking off from Kevin, who originally was going to need to be back by 2, but said he wanted to join us.
I really wanted to try for 200 miles after such a nice ride yesterday, but with the guys needing to get back mid-afternoon, that wasn’t going to happen.
I had planned a route with taking some county roads and two lane highways, and initially wanted to take Levee Road out of Portage along the Wisconsin River; however, that meant going all the way through the Dells during a very busy holiday weekend. Which also equates to a lot of stopping and sitting in heaven traffic. So I did not plan that and instead taking Cty F out of Portage to Montello.
We went through Oakfield and took Breakneck Road and then county roads north of Eldorado Marsh to Hwy 49 through Waupun and Hwy 68 to Fox Lake. From there we took Cty P to Pardeeville where I had planned for us to stop the new place for lunch across from Carol’s Cones, Piper’s Place, on Park Lake. Their specialty is Johnny B’s BBQ. We arrived at 10:30 and like most places, didn’t start serving until 11. So, we just grabbed something to drink and sat on their deck until then.
From there we took Cty P to Hwy 51 into Portage and as mentioned Cty F to Montello, where we got onto Hwy 23 for the remainder of the ride. I had also planned it this way so we could stop at The Ice Bowl in Princeton for ice-cream. Seems like every year I stop there, they have added on more money making amenities. Which is awesome for their business and all of the campers around that area. We sat in the shade and had nice conversations while eating our cream before venturing off towards home.
Only 130 miles today but pretty darn good for the time constraints. I used a new GPS tracking (GPS Tracks) app for the map and was pleasantly surprised it didn’t suck up too much of my battery on my phone.
