July 2 Two Rivers

Since it was supposed to be in the 80s this weekend, I planned a route to head towards Lake Michigan and more specifically Manitowoc and Two Rivers. I planned a ton of back roads we have never been on before, but it still came up short of 200 miles. So, Kevin added several loops and a couple jogs through the Kettles.

Our start was not good because Kevin could not hear me on his Sena. Said all he could hear is the wind and that’s when I realized what I found on my garage floor before leaving was the foam cover for my microphone. We headed back to Kevin’s to see if he had one in a box of his many versions he had bought over the years and we were lucky to find one.

So, back off we went with a stop in Dundee for fuel and then through the Kettles, into Green Bush and Glenbeulah, by Elkhart and all back roads to Manitowoc where we planned to stop for lunch.

We found a spot to park downtown and walked down to the waterfront where there is a new place to eat, The Warf. Pretty good food and very nice place. From there we took the bikes down to the waterfront because the Badger Ferry was still in dock and I always enjoy taking photos of it.

Then up along Lake Michigan to Two Rivers, north from there on Cty O and west on Cty V where we stopped at NextEra to take photos of the solar farm. It has gotten huge since the last time I passed through there and I believe the building used to be part of Dominion.

We ended up going back through Manitowoc on our way home and at one point while crossing some railroad tracks, I noticed the car ahead of me went over them more to the right, but I did not and what a huge wobble that caused on the front end of my bike. It even squacked. I thought for sure I was going down, and Kevin as well. Luckily it straightened itself out. I think Kevin was more shook up about it than me. Definitely made me cautious for the remainder of the day when crossing tracks or really bumpy roads.

We eventually made it to Chilton with a planned stop for ice-cream at Scoops. Yum, yum!

Since we would be successful at making over 200 miles, we took Hwy 151 all the way home from there, and I, took a little bit of a ride in the country to see my odometer hit 60000.

Although it was in the 80s today, the dew points didn’t seem very high and being close to Lake Michigan helped keep us cool.

Such a fun day, outside of the wobble.
