Aug 21 Oconomowoc/Holy Hill

Today I was originally planning on going for a ride with someone new; however, due a lack of communication, I decided early this morning to make new plans. So, I checked in with Kevin to see if he’d be interested in going to Oconomowoc and around the Holy Hill area, and he said yes. I sent him the route I had whipped up early in the morning so he could put it into his GPS because I picked a lot of back roads around the lakes in the Oconomowoc and Delafield area, including up to and around Holy Hill.

I planned more of a direct route to get there taking Hwy 175 and 67 to Oconomowoc with a planned stop for breakfast or lunch at Fishbone’s Cajun & Creole on Nagawicka Lake, and they did not disappoint.

From there is when I had planned lots of different roads. Some I have been on before and a lot I have not, including one of my favorites near Holy Hill, Hogsback Road. Still, no sightings of the goat man though.

Since I didn’t bring my good camera, I did not get my favorite shot of Holy Hill from Hwy 167. Although, we were able to get some okay shots of it with our phones. Especially on Donegal Road.

Eventually we ended up on Hwy 144 into West Bend area and crossing Hwy 33 on, I think, Badgerland Rd.  Then a bunch of back roads southwest of Campbellsport. One which turned to gravel, but only briefly. Again some new roads I was quite surprised I had never been on before, with a run by the dam on Lake Bernice. We took Cty V north out of Campbellsport with an intended stop at Kelley Country Creamery, and since it wasn’t the nicest of days, they weren’t too busy and we enjoyed our ice-cream while lounging on some rocking chairs outside.

Oh, I also forgot to mention we stumbled upon those really cool tunnels for the train bridge in Merton as well.

Saw some wildlife, mostly within less than a quarter mile near Holy Hill… a doe and her fawn, turkeys with their poults and I also came really close to hitting either a partridge or quail near Campbellsport.

Also, upon inspection of my rear tire which we noticed was down to the wear markers  two weeks ago, today they were far enough beyond them that you could see the cables under the thin rubber. So, no more riding until I get my new tires ordered and shod my bike with them.

Not a ton of miles, but some really cool roads with awesome views and great company. Thanks Kevin for joining me today with very short notice!!!
