June 5 Port Washington

Although it was supposed to be in the 90s with pretty high dew points, which I typically do not care to ride too far in this type of weather, I still planned a route for Kevin and I to go to Port with hopes it would be a bit cooler along Lake Michigan. Well, due to the winds coming out of the southwest, it wasn’t any cooler there.

We ventured there through parts of the Kettles, Dundee, Kewaskum and Fredonia and even took some roads we have never been on before.

Since it wasn’t any cooler in Port we didn’t venture out to the lighthouse even though it might have been cooler out on the harbor. Instead we just stopped in at Yummy Bones for lunch. As you see with most restaurants and manufacturing companies, there was a sign on the door “Help Wanted”. They were packed with quite a few people waiting for their orders and only two guys working. One lady waiting by us told us she had been waiting for an hour. The odd thing was a guy who came in after us received his order before we did and even before her! Well, it was a little over half an hour by the time our order was ready. Also, come to find out when I ordered wings that there is a shortage. So I ordered ribs instead. Where have I been that I did not know of this wing/chicken shortage? Kevin knew. I asked if Gold-N-Plump or Dubuque had been hacked like JBS? Don’t get it, but oh well, the ribs were really good.

Due to the how hot is was, we decided to forego the route I had planned back which going south, through Cedarburg and west before heading north. Instead taking Cty LL north. There was a brief moment, around a mile, when we actually felt the cool air off of Lake Michigan and that felt so good!

On our way back we also ended up on some roads which we had never been on as well. It was so hot we didn’t even stop for any photos and tried not to stay stopped for too long, except when we were inside enjoying the AC at Yummy.
