It was supposed to get up into high 60s, so Tom and I planned on riding today. I mapped out a route the night before taking us over to the Dells on some roads I have never been on before, but mostly I had chosen highway and county roads since I didn’t have Kevin’s GPS to rely on to remember a ton of back roads. I sure do under-appreciate that!
We met at my place around 11, so I planned for us to make a first stop at Karen’s Hip Hop Diner in Fox Lake for some lunch. From there we ventured mostly Hwy 33 and some back roads to Portage, and then Hwy 16 to the Dells. We stayed east of town around the Dells and took Hwy 13 and River Road, then Cty Q north, Cty K east, Cty B north to Grand Marsh. From Grand Marsh we took Cty E east, and then Cty J into Princeton.
We had talked about stopping in Ripon for ice-cream while we were eating lunch and I had checked on a place downtown. When we got to Princeton, I decided to pull over by the old ice-cream place on Hwy 23 to verify this, and low-and-behold the old place had reopened. We knew there was work being done to the place, but wasn’t sure what it was going to be. Well, they serve Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream and it is a Packers themed establishment, The Ice Bowl. So glad someone did something with it and what an awesome job they did at adding on dining inside as well.
From there we took Cty J out of Princeton, and then our old favorite, Olden Road, out of Ripon, to Cty N and I back to our side of town.
Almost exactly 180 miles today. As usual, it felt incredibly good to be on the bike again, although a little chilly at times.
