I opted not to ride yesterday (Saturday) since it was going to be bit cooler than today, plus lots of clouds and it was very windy. I also needed a weekend day to run and gets some errands taken care of because last weekend (Memorial Weekend) we rode every day.
However, we wanted to get in at least 200 miles today or a bit longer of a ride than what we have been doing, which is why I chose the Menominee Reservation/Hwy 55 north along the Wolf River. I heard the Menominee River was quite high, so I anticipated the Wolf would be too and it most certainly was.
I planned more direct roads to try and get us to Shawano around lunch time, and we made it there at 11:55. Gassed up and rode around town to find some place eat. I was surprised to find so many restaurants still closed when earlier in the week a Green Bay news channel was reporting that the bars around there were open and not adhering to the recommended 25% capacity, and also couldn’t get a response from the Sheriff or a city official.
However we found Angie’s Main Cafe was open and we’ve been there before, including there was plenty of distance between tables. It took a long time to get our food though. Hope that isn’t a pattern at the restaurants post COVID or we’ll keep hitting fast food drive-throughs with the bikes.
When we left there we headed to Keshena and stopped at Keshena Falls to check out the River and it was very high. Running extremely fast through the Falls. We actually saw lots of flooding before even getting to Shiocton along the Wolf River as well.
We proceeded north on Hwy 55 and had to stop once to let slower traffic get ahead of us who wouldn’t pull over in the turn outs to let us pass. After that we eventually we came up on a trike and a car going pretty slow so we backed off for a while so we could go faster again, and still caught back up with them. We made a little pit stop at a gas station at Hwy 55 and 64 in Langlade before pushing on east on Hwy 64 to Hwy 32 south.
We ended up on some divided highways a bit during the day, some planned, but Hwy 41 was not. Oh well, it probably helped with getting us home closer for dinner time since it was getting pretty late. We didn’t leave this morning until 10 a.m. because it got super chilly overnight and still wasn't so warm during parts of the ride. It’s a lot different standing still on a high 60s day with no humidity than doing over 60 mph.
Well we finally broke over 200 mile; 279 miles today. :) Hurray!
