So what was supposed to be an almost complete washout of rain weekend so far has turned out very nice, and today no rain with highs in the 80s and very light winds. With that said, I planned a ride to head towards Lake Michigan and for us to get to Port Washington around lunch time, including some roads through the Northern Kettle Moraine and some we’ve never been on before. We arrived in Port around noon so we stopped at a place where we’ve eaten at before on their Patio, and it is appropriately named: The Patio. There weren’t many other patrons, but it took an hour before we got our food. Mind you, it was 80 and sunny the whole time we were on their patio and without any umbrella’s. We had to take off our riding boots to keep from overheating and I got some sunburn. Needless to say we were ready to get back on the bikes and for a walk out to the lighthouse to cool off. After finding a parking spot we locked everything up on Kevin’s bike since its a bit of haul to the lighthouse and lots of folks in the touristy area. When we got to the walk out to the lighthouse it was taped off because the ramp was missing. Not sure if all the high eastern winds the past week caused it to deteriorate, or what, but it was missing except the I-beam framework. Most people were finding ways to get over the tape and fence or by going around it on the large boulders. I told Kevin I wasn’t comfortable with that, and also how many people were there either. So, we walked back to the bikes and proceeded on the route heading south out of Port along Cty C and Lake Shore Drive and eventually going through Cedarburg, and into Mequon and Germantown, before finding Hwy 145 and 175 most of the way home.
Good thing the route I planned was only 128 miles since we were at The Patio for around 2 hours.
