It was supposed to be another scorcher of a day today. Heat indices in the upper 90s with 70 dew points. So the goal was to head out early and originally towards Lake Michigan. However, we didn’t leave until 8:30 and I decided it wasn’t going to make much of a difference to head towards the Lake unless we could stay right along the shoreline the whole time, which wouldn’t be the case. Also, we were just over to Manitowoc and Trivers a couple weeks ago, including already have been to Port earlier this season. So, I opted to head to the Wild Rose area, going just north to Rural and then a bunch of back roads we haven’t been on before.
My goal for every ride is to attempt to find new roads, which isn’t very easy anymore. The route I planned there was more of a direct one to help save time and get us back before it got too incredibly hot, taking Hwy 23 and 73 to Hwy 22 to Wild Rose. Well apparently I am so used to going to Winona when I head this way, that I stayed on Hwy 23 out of Princeton instead of taking Hwy 73. Turned out okay though, since we ended up taking more roads we haven’t been on before to get back to Hwy 73.
We stopped for breakfast around 10 at Lakeshore Family Restaurant in Wautoma.
One of my objectives for going to Wild Rose was a stop at Roseville Mini-Golf and Shops to see the goats, only come to find out they weren’t there anymore. Boo hoo! So, we kept on trekking north to Rural. There were lots of people tubing and enjoying the Crystal River when we drove through there. Cute little community!
From there we took a bunch of back roads, some county ones and Hwy 49 for a bit into Poy Sippi. After that I found two roads named Buttercup, which is one of Kevin’s favorite songs played during the WI Badger’s football games. Figured he’d get a kick out of that!
Then we eventually took one of our old fave’s… Olden Road, then Cty N & I back to town.
It was getting to pretty steamy the last leg of our ride home, so I was cranking up the speed a bit. Sure could have used a dip in the pool after when we got back, but its still not open due to COVID.
