July 12 Edgerton

Since we didn’t get close to 200 miles yesterday and today was going to be an even more comfortable day for riding, I planned a route to Edgerton with plans to try and find a historical marker near there that we had stop by last time we were in that area on the bikes, which was back in 2013.

We started out around 9 a.m. going through Oakfield, Horicon Marsh, and then taking Hwy 26 to Juneau. After that taking some county roads east of Hwy 26 and eventually getting back onto 26 all the way to the Edgerton exit. We stopped at a gas station along the Rock River before getting to Edgerton for a break and for me to use the rest rooms. The place was so busy and there ended up being five of us in line inside of the women’s rest room, so I opted to leave. Too close of quarters for my comfort level just yet. So along we plugged along into Edgerton finding the Cafe on Main for lunch. Well, we actually ordered breakfast since it seemed to be their specialty and it wasn’t even noon yet.

From there we were off to Albion just north of there where the Albion Academy historical marker was. Kevin planned to use it for the next tag for his ST Group and we were going to pick up the last tag which was the Christopher Columbus statue outside of Columbus. And so we headed for Columbus taking Hwy 73 all of the way there, and low and behold, as was mentioned with all of the controversy regarding BLM, it had already been taken down. We still stopped for Kevin to get the tag and show the ST Group it was in fact already gone.

From there I wanted to stop for a break at a park I had seen east of Columbus along the Rock River, and we did once we figured out where it exactly was.

At that point we decided to throw out the rest of the planned route consisting of taking Hwy 73 further north, by taking other county roads closer to where we were up to Beaver Dam. We stopped on Cty D/G along the Beaver Dam Lake and took some pictures before heading west back to Hwy 73, and then Hwy 68 east into Fox Lake so we could get some ice-cream at Karen’s Hip Hop Diner

From there we took Hwy 68 to Waupun and Hwy 49 to Brownsville. Then taking Cty Y north to Old Hickory Road back to town.

Today was a much more comfortable day to be on the bikes for that length of time, and we did surpass the 200 mile marker. :)
