July 11 Mishicot/Lake Michigan

We finally were getting a break from the temps in the 90s and dew points in the 70s, so I had to get a ride in. Since it was still going to get pretty hot and sticky, I opted to plan the route heading towards Lake Michigan to Manitowoc and Two Rivers, and plans to also find a place for lunch in Two Rivers.

Tom joined us today and we met at Kevin’s around 8 a.m. Leaving early also helped since it was still pretty cool in the morning.

We took Cty T east out of town and ended up going through Glenbeulah, and around Elkhart Lake before heading east to Lake Shore Drive along Lake Michigan, just north of Sheboygan. We made a pit stop by one of my favorite parks along Lake Michigan in Cleveland, Hika Bay. They have the best skipping stones. However, most of the beach was flooded due to the higher water levels. We walked further north and found some of the beach that wasn’t under water with lots of good stones.

From there we continued on Lake Shore to Manitowoc and Hwy 42 to Two Rivers. Then we took some county roads north and west out of Two Rivers to Mishicot. We decided to go to Mishicot for lunch since we were making such good time and it wasn’t even 11 by the time we made it to Two Rivers. We found a restaurant, Clubhouse Family Restaurant, and hoped they would still be serving breakfast, and they were.

After having breakfast we headed south eventually connecting to Hwy 151 east into Chilton where we stopped for ice-cream at Scoops

The rest of the route was on some country roads, Cty H and then Hwy 151 south back to town. We planned a stop at the lighthouse at Lakeside Park to take a photo of our bikes in front of it. I’ve always wanted to do this and now more than ever with the contention of the City Council wanting to build a private restaurant next to it.

It was beginning to get quite sticky and hot by the end of our ride, but it was a really nice day and it felt so good that I am for sure planning a longer ride for tomorrow since it will be even cooler with lower dew points.
