We planned to take a ride to Port with hopes the walk-out to the lighthouse would be open since it wasn’t earlier this season.
We took Cty T with a little detour to my old haunt before taking the furthest north drop into the Kettle Moraine, taking Scenic Drive all the way just northwest of West Bend and then other back roads into Saukville, and then Hwy 33 into Port. We planned to stop at Yummy Bones for lunch. So sad his restaurant couldn’t survive in Fondy even after receiving two awards while they were there. I ordered spicy wings, and boy let me tell you… they were so spicy it made my mac-n-cheese seem HOT.
From there we walked down to the harbor and luckily enough the walk-out to the lighthouse was open. However, there was Michels equipment near the entrance and only a steel grate in place where the dock wall had been damaged or whatever happened to it. While I worked for Michels I helped the Foundation group with their qualification and bid submission for this project. I’m not quite sure if they were repairing it due to some force of nature or fixing something that wasn’t finished properly?
From there we took Cty H into Fredonia and a bunch of back roads we never have been on with intentions of making it to Elkhart Lake for ice-cream at Gessert’s.
Not a whole lot of miles, but with all of the back roads, it took up most of the day; including spending around two hours in Port.
