Kevin is camping in Ilinois this weekend, so I was looking for other people to ride with. Scott couldn’t today, but we planned on riding tomorrow. However, now its not looking so good with rain chances, so I asked Alan if he was available today and he was for the afternoon.
We planned to meet at the gas station in Waucousta at 12:45. On my way there I passed the fundraising/tribute ride for fallen motorcyclist and former police officer, Phillip Thiessen, who was killed while riding his Harley due to a hate-crime, which never received the press it should have. There was for sure over 100 bikes and I knew someone who was participating, but I could not make him out of all those bikes. I arrived a bit early to Waucousta, so I decided to drive into Dundee to see if there was still construction on Cty G and then back to the gas station. When I returned Alan was there.
We decided to go through Dundee and then through the Northern Kettles and back roads into Elkhart Lake with a drive by Road America on Cty J with hopes we could see the sport cars on the track, however we did not. We stopped for a break and ice-cream in Elkhart at Gessert's. Talk about super yummy!!! I had to by a piece of candy too. So many very nice cars and bikes around there. I should have taken a pic of the Ferrari that parked next to our bikes. Oh well!
From there we proceeded north to Chilton and took a stop by the dam. Then west on Hwy 151 with what seemed like a very fitting stop by the memorial at the sight of Phillip Thiessen’s accident. From there we went through Lakeside Park with a final stop by my Mom’s tree and bench.
Only 110ish miles, but with several stops and a pretty late start, that’s about all one could expect. It rained very lightly just for a little while before getting to Chilton, otherwise pretty warm with overcast skys. Felt good!
